From the BAIS Secondary Principal’s Desk
Dear BAIS Community,
A few weeks ago, I was able to share some details that compared the Advanced Placement program to the International Baccalaureate. I appreciated the positive feedback from many parents about the article. If you missed it, feel free to click this link. As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me or set up at appointment to discuss these educational models.
I’m excited to take this opportunity to share to data and trends related to standardized testing at BAIS. The following are some key highlights:
This chart reflects the percentage of students over the last three years who meet or exceed projected MAP growth in Reading. Growth is projected based on norms and the goals are created by the MAP program based on the millions of students who take the test. You will notice that the results in 2015 were relatively low compared to the last two years. This is an indication of the successful adjustments the English Language Arts department has implemented, some great new teaching strategies along with technology software that differentiates learning to provide a personalized instruction (IXL). We are pleased to celebrate students’ success in this area. You can see that 100% of the current 9th grade class met or exceeded their goals!

The three charts above show BAIS results on the SAT compared with the national averages. BAIS students consistently score over 200 points higher than the national averages on the SAT. Unfortunately, the new format of the SAT does not provide section results for comparison. We are hopeful CollegeBoard will soon be able to do so.
This last chart indicates the percentage of BAIS students who score a three or better on AP exams. The CollegeBoard standard is that students who score a minimum of three are ready for university level courses in the same subject area. In September, all AP teachers were given an analysis of their students’ exam results indicating specific areas of deficit. From this data, they were able to make adjustments in lesson planning and curriculum. I am very excited to see how these adjustments positively impact student performance on their exams in May!
This sampling of data demonstrates again that BAIS students and teachers are working hard toward continued excellence. BAIS desires to continue being the excellent and rigorous school of choice in the Bandung area. We appreciate the privilege of partnering with you in your child’s education and would be very pleased if you would share some of this celebratory data with interested parents. Don’t forget, if you refer a family to BAIS that enrolls for the 18-19 school year, you will receive a Rp. 10 juta tuition benefit!
Blessings,
Mr. Jeremy Thomas

Terchnology Update
Our phone number 08281-90-90000 was discontinued by the vendor as they were using an obsolete CDMA technology. As part of migrating all their clients over to their newer 4G technology they will have to change the number. So, as of now the 08281-90-90000 is no longer active.
Our WhatsApp is still active under the number (08281-90-90000) but we cannot receive calls with this number anymore. Our 022-8681-3949 phone number is still active and currently is the best way to reach BAIS office.
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your continued support and patience.

Why do we want an optional full-day preschool at BAIS?
The school would like to add an optional afternoon enrichment program to our current preschool classes. The PK3-4 classes would be combined in the morning, and then families can enroll in an optional afternoon enrichment session on a quarter by quarter basis.
Some of the reasons we want to add this program are as follows…
- Both Preschool 3 and Preschool 4 students will be able to attend classes in the morning without disrupting the students’ nap times and lunch schedules.
- A combined class would allow for larger group interaction, which would help with social development as well as language development.
- Parents with other students at BAIS would be able to pick up and drop off their pre-schooler at the same time as their other students.
- Students that are ready for a long day are able to get enrichment times of social interaction and reinforcement of key skills while students that are not interested in a full day are able to go home after the morning session.
The school is planning on piloting this program starting March 12th of this year. This way we will be able to see how the program is working and better gauge the interest and value of the program before the 2018-2019 school year. If you would like to know more information about this new program, or if you have any questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to email or talk to Mrs. Sianturi.
