The
rains stopped just in time for our boys' varsity basketball team to play
our visitors. The visiting club Scorpio played well and it was a close
game during the first half. Later on, our team's skill and experience
coupled with good ball handling and endurance carried the day and BAIS
won 71 to 66. It was a close and exciting game. Immediately after the
game, Eric Maxey was the emcee and supervised a paper airplane contest.
Boys, girls, moms and dads went up to the 2'nd floor and launched their
airplanes. It was spectacular to see a cloud of white floating down from
the second floor balcony. A dad, Garth Friesen, won for the guys and a
mom, Sarah Beeson, won for the ladies. Maybe parents do know more than
their children! Eric also tested the science knowledge of one of our former
students, Jamie Lewis, compared to our present day students: Rainer Liem,
Greg Coles and Joy Park. Joy and Greg won; sorry, Jamie. Everyone enjoyed
the basketball game and the activities that followed it.

All the excitement of the game made everyone hungry. The senior class grilled hotdogs and hamburgers. A potluck was also provided. It was a relaxing time to eat, mingle and visit with some of the guests who came for the celebration. |

Brunch |
|
| |
The
brunch on Saturday morning, April 14, provided a relaxed atmosphere for
out-of-town guests to renew friendships and catch up on each others' lives.
Former students and staff came from England , Malaysia , Canada , Germany
and various places in Indonesia , supplying unending conversation and lots
of laughter. "You were always one of the big girls who I could never
deign to know, so it's a bit strange talking to you now as equals,"
chuckled Sarah Heath Williams to Krisy Kuhns Maxey, 6 years her senior.
After a couple hours of conversation, coffee, and piles of food, some walked
over to Jl Gunung Agung for a tour of the present BAIS campus. Joey Beeson
, the current director, found that his intended 20-25 minute tour lasted
3 times that long while the group reminisced and exchanged stories. The
morning's activity ended with a bus ride out to the new BAIS property at
Kota Baru Parahyangan to catch a glimpse of the future and envision a celebration
of the next 50 years. |

On
Saturday night, over 100 BAIS teachers, parents, students, and alumni gathered
at Bumi Sangkuriang Club to celebrate our past, present, and future.
Jamey Lewis, as our emcee, guided us through an evening of entertainment.
Our four guest speakers, Lelia Lewis, Alec Valley, Wayne Thompson, and Joe
Hale brought laughter, tears, and inspiration as they shared their memories
of our school and their hopes for our future. The Club provided a
delicious four-course dinner as we were entertained with a DVD from our
Korean students, special music by Jamey & Cindy Lewis, a glimpse at
our future campus from Larry LeGrande, and a DVD helping us to grasp the
vision of NICS (Network of International Christian Schools), our supporting
organization. It was an evening which brought wonderful closure to
our BAIS 50 th Anniversary Weekend. |
