Feburary 10, 2010 The BAIS boys varsity were supposed to play a very tall and tough Aceh regional team, but that got cancelled at the last minute. They played a local club team and had their way the entire game, winning 68-18. With Yoon Seong out with an ankle injury, Won Jin, Min Young and Matt Marshall all took turns playing point and leading the team. For the first time this season, everyone scored at least four points, with Matt M. leading the way with 17 points and 8 assists. The Eagles did well in keeping their pressure on and solid performance, even with a weak team. This was the first game with Matt LeGrande and Terry starting at low post, and Matt M. playing wing, and they were very successful using this combination. Keun, Brady and Drew all played great as well, getting good court time and experience that will later help BAIS in defending last year's IISSAC championship. The Eagles will scrimmage a very tough ITHB college team this Friday at SIS, so come out and enjoy a fast paced game!
January 29, 2010 The BAIS boys' varsity team played their first college opponent, UPI. They were a big, physical team, but the speed and pressure of the Eagles wore them down, and led to a 51-31 win for BAIS. Once again, the Eagles showed good composure, dealing well with inconsistent officiating and the physical level of play. Matt Marshall led the way with 22 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 blocked shots. Terry had a great game on the boards, getting 14 rebounds to go along with 8 points. Won Jin played his usual hustle; never giving up game, getting 13 points and 4 steals. All nine Eagles (with Yoon Seong, Min Young, Matt, Drew, Brady and Keun) played with good energy and contributed to the win. Thanks to all the fans that came out to cheer on the Eagles teams.
December 09, 2009 The BAIS boy’s varsity team played the Tunas club Wednesday, December 9th. At the end of the first quarter, the game was tied 20-20. After that, the Eagles pulled away, with the final score of 76-52. It was another all around good effort by the Eagles, whose full court press and rebounding was too much for Tunas. Matt Marshall led all scores and rebounders with 36 points and 16 boards. Terry had a great game as well, with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Won Jin came through with 7 assists, and Matt LeGrande had his best night with 11 rebounds. Yoon Seong directed the offense for most of the game, doing a great job in keeping the pace moving quickly. Brady and Drew are responding well with more playing time as well.
December 08, 2009 On Tuesday, December 8th, the JV team played a club team with 10th and 11th graders. Their half court press was too much as the score was 81 to 17 in their favor, but for you who think our Eagles lost read on. They fought the entire game with all their heart never giving up and they won the greatest victory of all: pleasing an audience of One. Luke Marshall gave his all several times breaking down their defense. Paul Ha was the leading scorer with 12 points with the supporting cast, a nice three pointer by Yoon Soon and 2 points from Rick as he attacked their zone. The rest of the gang fought with all their heart and we can be proud of them all. In practice we will work on breaking the half court press. We will be ready next time. Go Eagles!
December 05, 2009 The second game saw the team travel to JIS’ main campus in Cilandak, Jakarta. The BAIS boys put in a great effort against JIS, but JIS, with their full court press and deep bench, were too much on that day. The final score was 78-51. Yoon Seong led the BAIS scorers with 20, along with Won Jin’s 16 and Matt Marshall’s 12. Matt recorded a triple double, but in a less conventional way. Besides his 12 points, he hauled down 16 rebounds and got 13 blocks. Mr. Williams kept the score sheet for BAIS and thought he missed at least a few more blocks of Matt’s. We know what we need to work on more now; dealing with the full court press, and shooting better (23% for the game). Our boys had many open looks, but the shots just weren’t falling on Saturday. Terry, Min Young, Brady, Drew and Matt L. all played with a lot of heart. The JIS coach commented that he was impressed that our boys played hard the entire game, even when behind by a lot. We look forward to a possible rematch here in Bandung in January. JIS has nearly 1,000 students in their high school, we have around 60, so our boys should feel good about their effort against this huge international school with one of the best sports facilities in the country.
November 24, 2009 The BAIS boys’ varsity played their first game against St. Angela on Nov. 24. They won convincingly, 57-24. The starters for BAIS are: Matt Marshall, Won Jin Suh, Yoon Seong Nam, Terry St. Onge and MinYoungPark. The three reserves are Matt Legrande, Brady Friesen and Drew Williams. All eight players saw lots of playing time, as they built a significant lead by the second quarter. Matt M. led the way with 15 points and 6 rebounds, followed by Won Jin with 13 points, Yoon Seong with 8 points, and Terry with 6 points. This was a great team effort in their first game of the season.
The JV had its first game against St. Angela also on Nov. 24. It was a nail bitter of a game. At the end of the first quarter we were up 6 to 4. Within 4 minutes into the second quarter St. Angela’s half court press converted 10 points on easy steals. The team fought their way back into the game. We used a full court press and with one minute left we were down by 2 points. We stole the ball and scored and then did it again putting us up by two. St. Angela had one last attempt but our defense proved unbreakable. We won by 2, the final score was 27-25. Paul Ha had 18 points. Luke Walker led the team in assists. Steven led the team in steals and had 4 points. Luke Marshal figured out how to pass the ball past St. Angela’s press. The boys did great and I’m really proud that they never gave up even though they were down by around 8 points at the half.
