The guys played a tough Trinitas team on Thursday, losing for the first time this season, three games to one. The Eagles faced a unique opponent, in that Trinitas brought two separate teams to the match. After winning the first game 25-4, we faced a completely new - and much more challenging - team.
While the Eagles played their usual solid match, Trinitas seemed to make no mistakes, and was able to outlast the Eagles on many long volleys. Any mistakes made on our side were quickly capitalized on by the opponent; although the Eagles made each game close, we weren’t able to pull off a win.
The players did a great job adjusting their blocking game to Trinitas quick sets and hits, and hitters Caleb Marshall and Min Young Park did will in their attacks. Wil Maxey also contributed significantly on the attack from his blocker position.
Watch for one more “exhibition” game against the BAIS Satpams next week, as well as a rescheduled game against Wahana.
Friday, April 25, 2008:
The boys played a good match against Pasundan 2 on Friday, winning 3 games to 1. While the team seemed to lose some focus in the middle of this match, in the fourth game they came back after losing the third game, then being down several points in the fourth game to take the match.
With the team missing outside hitter MinYoungPark because of a broken wrist, Andrew Wijaya performed well, helping solidify a rotation that was modified because of Min Young’s absence. Remaining hitter Caleb Marshall had several nice kills, and blockers Wil Maxey and Rainer Liem contributed with several of their own as well. Josh Fish also filled in well in substitution for Rainer with several nice passes.
As a whole, the Eagles’ passing seems to be much better, making it easier for setters Josh Park and David Tanuwijaya, who have improved over the course of the season in their play at the net.
Watch for two games coming next week to make up for the shortened holiday week!
Friday, April 11, 2008: The boys played another nice match against Hidap Baru last Friday, winning three straight games 25-11, 25-19, and 25-12. The main challenge for the guys was staying focused and playing well despite playing against a team with a lower skill level. Wil Maxey had probably the best spike of the match, slamming it to the middle of the court during the last game. Other outside hitters Caleb Marshall and Min Young also contributed well, and setter Josh Park had his first spike of the year as well.
Thanks to all the fans who have come out to watch – it’s been a lot of fun so far this season!
Friday, April 04, 2008: The boys enjoyed a first-match challenge Friday against an experienced team made up of the school’s satpams. The Eagles fell behind in the first game and were not able to recover, losing 12-25. The second game started better, with the Eagles spreading their lead during the middle of the game by as much as 7 points. The satpam team mounted a comeback, but the Eagles prevailed 25-21, thanks in part to success with their blocking game. The third and fourth games were also traded back and forth, with the Eagles winning a close third game 27-25, and the satpams taking the fourth 14-25. The fifth and deciding game was another tight one, going to a score of 14-14 before the Eagles got the last two points to win 17-15 and the match 5 games to 3.
The Eagles were helped throughout the match by solid blocking at the net and respectable success with their hitting. Getting used to playing their positions and improving their passing game will give them something to build on throughout the season.
