From the BAIS Director’s Desk

Dear BAIS Community,

As the end of our first quarter is quickly approaching, I want to review the first quarter and share key administrative goals for this year.

During the first quarter our teachers have invested a great deal of time outside of their classroom and planning time learning how to navigate new technology structures that have been put in place. The two main systems BAIS has adopted are Rubicon Atlas and PowerSchool. Rubicon Atlas is a software system that allows our team to map out and organize their year long plans. It is also a place where teachers within the larger NICS organization can share ideas. This is software that our parent community will not see but that plays an important role in supporting our faculty as they seek to practice sound pedagogy with students.

The second piece of technology, the PowerSchool suite, is ultimately designed to better integrate our back office needs such as attendance, grading, and printing reports. This system facilitates easier interaction and communication between teachers, parents, and students. The rollout of this has not been as smooth as we would have preferred, but in the long run we know that PowerSchool will play a valuable role in maintaining a close partnership with our parent community as well as be a valuable tool to enhance student learning. Now that these two pieces are in place and functioning well, BAIS is well equipped with our curriculum and school management systems for years to come.

Our goal this year as an administrative team is to listen well to the BAIS community. I want to invite you, members of the parent community to come to us with ideas, concerns, encouragement, and/or suggestions. Our team has already had several formal and informal gatherings with many of you in order to share information and ideas as well as to respond to your questions and hear your concerns. We look forward to sharing many more times like this with you throughout the year. It is our desire to meet the needs of your children and to serve you well.

Thank you for choosing BAIS!!

SAT TEST

We are excited to be hosting the SAT test on Saturday, October 7, 2017. We will have over 60 test takers on the BAIS campus during the testing period. This is the largest group we have had sit for an SAT test to date. Therefore, we have decided that it is best for the integrity of the test and for the students taking the test to have a quiet campus.

Only test takers and teachers will be allowed on campus during the testing period. Families and students may begin to use the campus after 2:00 p.m. Please note this closure is for the entire campus. This is a great opportunity for outside students and families to see our beautiful campus. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Secondary Principal

FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR

On Monday, October 30, the University of British Columbia will be coming to our campus to give a presentation during secondary lunch (12:21-12:57) in Mr. Powers’ room (204) to any high school students and parents who are interested. Here is a bit more about UBC:

The University of British Columbia, founded in 1908, is a global centre for research, teaching, and learning, and is consistently ranked among the most international institutions, and one of the top 40 research universities, in the world. Each year more than 60,000 students pursue their education at UBC’s two locations – a coastal campus in Vancouver, on Canada’s spectacular Pacific coast, and the beautiful Okanagan campus in the interior of BC. Math Curriculum Update

Dear Parents:

I am excited to announce that our new math curriculum has arrived. The staff has worked hard to check in the books and get them covered so the teachers and students can start using them right away. There were a couple classes that still had some missing books, and we are working with the distributor to get those books shipped as soon as possible. Overall though, we are excited to start using these new programs. If you have any questions about the changes we have made to the math program over this last year, please email me or stop in at my office.

Sincerely,
Charity Sianturi
