From the Elementary Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents,
I want to thank all the parents who showed up at the Pancakes with Parents event and supported the elementary team as we closed out the month of I love to Read. Award-winning author, poet, and publisher Emilie Buchwald once said, “Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.” Reading is an essential skill for a child’s success in the world today. One of the first places that they learn to love reading is by watching someone whom they love reading. It was such a fun sight to see so many parents reading to their students while sharing freshly cooked pancakes. We realize that as parents you have so many things that you have to do during the day, so we thank you for taking that time to spend the morning with us and with your child.
Now with I Love to Read finished, the school is now transitioning our focus to our up-coming Week Without Walls service project, March 11-15. For those that are new to the school, Week Without Walls is a time where students gather in teams from different grades and with different teachers in order to participate in a week of service projects. This year we have 12 projects that BAIS will participate in. Yesterday or today, you should receive a permission slip from your child explaining the project, the name, and details of the project they are in. Please take a moment to sign those permission slips and return them to school. If you have any questions regarding the WWW projects, please don’t hesitate to email your student’s teacher or the school, and we can answer those questions for you.

Week Without Walls – WWW
Permission slips have gone home with secondary students on Thursday and elementary on Friday.
Please return them to the group leaders no later than Wednesday, March 6th.
One of the WWW projects this year is going to Home of Love and YKAKI. These two homes are for families with children who have cancer. We, as a community, are looking for some donations to bless them with. If you have any of the following items that you would like to donate, please drop them off at the front office. Thank you!
- Gently used children’s clothing
- Children’s books in Bahasa Indonesia
- Board/Card games
- New toiletry items (bars of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes etc.)

Summer Program for High Schoolers
On Wednesday, March 6, our eleventh graders will hear from Kyle Dotson from FuturePaths about some upcoming summer programs. FuturePaths offers college preparatory programs at major universities in the U.S. to qualified international high school students in Asia. Kyle Dotson will also be sharing during 6th period (12:21-12:57) in the computer lab. Students are welcome bring their lunch if they would like to join.
Throughout the school year, we receive information about summer programs at universities around the world. We have combined it into one document for quick access and would like to pass that information along for you and your student to look into. Please be aware that some due dates are coming up quickly.

IISSAC
Basketball concluded this past week with the IISSAC tournament in Salatiga and the Senior Basketball Game. We are proud of both of our teams and our amazing seniors!

IISSAC Results
BAIS Girls finished fifth at IISSAC. Junior Beltra was voted by opposing coaches as the BAIS MVP!
Senior Jade said, “IISSAC is one of the best parts of being at BAIS. All the time traveling to and back, playing in the games, and bonding makes a team become a family. And being in the basketball fam 2019 was such an honor and a blessing from God.”
Kirstie: “IISSAC was a bittersweet memory as I appreciated having friends travel with me as we got closer together while playing not only during the tournament but also during the season. I have great hopes for the team and I think they will do better next year.”
Ms. Christensen: “I really enjoyed watching the girls’ basketball team grow and improve this season. They demonstrated integrity and graciousness, on and off the court. I’m looking forward to seeing every girl back next year.”
BAIS Boys finished second in the tournament losing to Mountainview. Ezra in the 10th grade was voted BAIS MVP!
Daniel: “Although it was disappointing to lose IISSAC, it was one of the best weekends of my senior year. I loved getting to play and watch my team as we fought hard and worked together. More than anything else, getting to know this team and spending a weekend as brothers with one focused goal was amazing.”
Paul: “To be honest, looking at our team at the beginning of the year, I didn’t expect to get as far as we did, but we worked really hard and had joy, comradery, and most importantly gave God glory throughout all of IISSAC which is what counts.”
The Senior Game this past Tuesday was a fun way to celebrate the end of the season and our four amazing seniors. Thank you Paul, Daniel, Jade, and Kirstie for who you are and what you have contributed to BAIS and the athletic program.
Jade: “Honestly, I tried so hard not to cry during the games and the senior recognition. It might have been one of those feelings where you are so sad and so happy that you don’t even know what is going on or how fast time was going. I wish senior year was two years, it just went by too fast.”
Kirstie: “As a senior, I am really thankful for my teammates that are really supportive and this game proved to me how special they are. It didn’t feel like the last game I am playing with them because it was so enjoyable. I am looking forward to continuing to play basketball with them.”
Daniel: “This year has been amazing. I have been so honored to grow and learn with this amazing group who pushed each other past their limits. No matter how hard the game or how annoying a call, this team kept their heads high and fought with honor, and I am so happy I got to play on such an amazing team.”
Paul: “”It feels like my BAIS basketball “career” has gone by in a flash, and I will miss it so much. Playing high school basketball, especially in a school like BAIS, is an experience not many people get to have and I’m so thankful for each and every game I got to play this last year.”
Ms. Christensen: “Seniors, you were such an integral part of our team this year. You kept morale high and were a huge encouragement through each high or low of the season. You will be missed.”

BAIS will host a swim invitational March 2. We are expecting over 150 swimmers!
