From the BAIS Athletic Director’s Desk
Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, said, “When a person doesn’t have gratitude, something is missing in his or her humanity. A person can almost be defined by his or her attitude toward gratitude.” This past semester, in preparation for the IISSAC swim tournament, I have been humbled and impressed at the number of people that have stepped up to help put the swim meet together. Our BAIS community can be defined by its willingness to serve and come together to accomplish something greater than we could do alone.
Next weekend, April 27-29, BAIS will be hosting the IISSAC swim tournament on campus. Five other schools will be at BAIS, 174 swimmers, and hundreds of spectators are expected to come to our school. It is exciting to welcome so many people to our school! This past week I have seen Pak Chevy and Pak Yudi’s teams constructing the winner’s podium, scrubbing the pool, and repainting the pool area. Ms. Hall volunteered to organize the volunteers. Within two days enough volunteers had signed up to fill all the essential positions (but more are always needed). Thanks to all the BAIS staff and parents willing to volunteer their time to enable the tournament to operate! Pak Henry, Ibu Dias, and the swim committee have spent countless hours organizing data, creating spreadsheets, contacting vendors, etc. Your energy, time, and hard work has not gone unnoticed. Parents have stepped up to provide food options for our visiting swimmers. Thank you for your partnership Ibu Yuliani, Davina, and Mrs. Kim! PACE, specifically Ibu Fifi and Mrs. Gunthorpe, has also done an impressive job coordinating food vendors! There are countless others that have contributed to the planning and success of the IISSAC meet next weekend. I am grateful for the contribution you have made!
In 1 Corinthians, Paul writes about how individuals working together are able to accomplish something greater than themselves. I have witnessed that biblical truth acted out in how our community has come together. Preparing for the IISSAC swim meet was an intimidating, daunting task at the beginning of the year. However, the faithfulness and cooperation of our amazing BAIS community has affirmed how blessed we are to be part of such a selfless community.
Humbly and with sincere thanks,
Justin W. Powers
Athletic Director & Activities Coordinator
