From the Elementary Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents and Students,

The end of April is upon us and we are quickly heading into a season of May Merriment were we have an opportunity to celebrate so many of the great accomplishments that have happened over this year. First, I want to take time to share some of the great things that have been accomplished in the area of curriculum this year. This year we have done a comprehensive evaluation of our English Language Arts (LA) program as well as out English Language Development (ELD) program. I want to say a huge thank you to all the parents, teachers, and staff that have filled out surveys and given feedback on ways to help improve these two programs.

In addition to these two programs, we are finalizing the examination of our Math program. I want to say thank you to Peter Kim and his wife, Kate, for helping the Math committee in working through curriculum decisions. We have been able to select new math materials for next year, and we are adding more technology resources to help as well. The committee has talked through ways to adjust our math class offering to provide more options for students, and we have even added a second graduation diploma option for BAIS graduates. Again, I am thankful to all the parents and staff that have helped us strength our programs here at BAIS.

In closing, I want to remind you that next week will continue our MAP testings, our ELD testing, as well as completing our end of the year Writing Assessment. We will also have a chance to celebrate our IISSAC Swim team as they head to Bali to compete on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Throughout the week there will be Spirit Dress up Days as well as a Pep Assembly out at the Pool on Tuesday afternoon. The schedule for the Spirit Days are as follows…

There are so many great things happening on and around out BAIS community, and we thank you for being an active participant in your child’s education.

Sincerely,
Charity (LaMertha) Sianturi, Ed.S
Elementary Principal / Curriculum Coordinator
