From the BAIS Director

BAIS Eagles Spread Their Wings!

This past weekend, both our girls and boys basketball teams participated in their first IISSAC tournament in two years! IISSAC stands for Indonesian International Small Schools Activities Conference. This year’s tournament was held at Surabaya Intercultural School. The teams were coached by Mr. Cantrall and Miss Christensen, alongside assistant coaches Miss Hays and Mr. Whitehurst. Special thanks to our Athletic Director, Hani Ramappa, and AD assistant, Dias Natalia for all their hard work in coordinating this awesome event!

Both teams pushed through a tough year with very little practice time (due to local regulations). Despite the lack of preparation, both teams played incredibly well! The boys team came in second place, while the girls secured third. It was an especially rich time for our seniors, who played in their final high school games.

It was a joy to see our athletes enjoying competition once again. We are thankful for the opportunity and are looking forward to next year’s competitions. If you see any of these athletes or coaches around school, be sure to congratulate them on a job well done!

Team MVP’s (most valuable players) were chosen by the opposing teams’ coaches. Emily Stanford (G11) was named girls MVP, and Jake Lee (G12) was chosen for the boys.

Hiring Update

We are excited to share with our community the exciting news that Ms. LaMertha has decided to return next year. She will be continuing to provide our students with excellent English education and will also be taking on a new role as our Professional Learning Coordinator. In this role, she will work with the administration to plan and then facilitate professional learning for our staff. She will also be finishing up her doctorate and writing her dissertation, so we are thankful and excited to be able to continue to benefit as a school from her wisdom and years of experience.

Guidance Counselor Update

Congratulations to Junha Kang!

Junha has been accepted to the University of California, Davis in the United States of America.

When you see him around campus or the Google meet – make sure to give them a covid-high-five.

Please be praying for the rest of the seniors class as they are working or waiting for responses to applications.

Build to Give // Book Drive

Build to Give is excited to announce a partnership with the Hrabars to bring books to kampung kids in Lombok.

The Hrabars were a part of the BAIS community for 8 years. Since moving to Sumbawa, they have had all sorts of adventures including swimming with whale sharks! Currently they are running a tourism company in Lombok that allows groups from America to visit villages and learn about the cultures and religions there.

By donating books for children ages 4-18, we can be a blessing to many kids that simply do not have access to resources for education like we do. Please consider donating English or Indonesian books for school aged children. Our biggest needs are for story books with pictures and coloring workbooks for elementary students. For more detailed information, please look at the poster and check our instagram at @buildtogive.

We will be accepting donations from April 4th to April 14th to be put in a blue container in the BAIS school lobby. Thank you for your continued support! If you have any questions, please email Melissa melissabudijono@baisedu.org or Sherin sherinchong@baisedu.org.
