From the NICS Home Office

Dear Bandung Alliance Intercultural School Parents and Students,

Thank you for your continued support of Bandung Alliance Intercultural School and for making it your family’s choice for education in Bandung. We are also thankful for the wonderful staff that has served in these difficult times, teaching, mentoring, and discipling students. This year has been full of challenges; however with families and staff working together students have had a successful year of learning and growth. It is my pleasure to share with you an update on the selection of a new director for BAIS. Mr. Neil Cantrall was named interim director for the 2021 – 2022 school year while we reviewed the process of selecting a director to follow Mr. Jeremy Thomas. After prayer and careful consideration Mr. Cantrall has officially been offered the director position at BAIS for this next school year.

Our team at the Network of International Schools (NICS) headquarters in the US has been carefully considering how to go forward with the naming of a director for Bandung Alliance Intercultural School. Our desire was to have someone with significant cross-cultural leadership experience. It is obvious that Mr. Cantrall has all the qualities we would want for BAIS. He has served in numerous teaching and leadership positions in the United States, Peru, and now in Indonesia. His previous service in Peru as a teacher, principal, and director for a decade has given him a broad perspective of how to lead an international school. Two years ago he began a doctoral program to broaden his understanding of educational leadership. Serving on the leadership team and working closely with teachers, staff, and parents here in Bandung, he has been able to influence and support student learning. Mr. Thomas and the team have appreciated his positive influence and love for people. He and his family have come to love Indonesia and desire to make Bandung home for the foreseeable future. We also have appreciated his support and close work with the NICS Office of School Operations.

Join us in welcoming Mr. Cantrall officially as BAIS director. Also we ask that you help us thank Mr. Jeremy Thomas for his service as a principal and director here at BAIS. He has had a profound impact on the lives of students and his assistance in helping Mr. Cantrall transition into the new role is very appreciated. The NICS Office of School Operations continues to work closely to see that there will be a coordinated transition plan for the coming school year. The future looks very bright and we again thank you for choosing Bandung Alliance Intercultural School for your child’s education.

Sincerely,

G. Duane Jobe, Ed.D.

Exciting Changes for Technology

Thank you for your continued support as we navigated an unprecedented year of online learning! I wanted to let you know about three exciting changes that will be happening for the next 2021-2022 school year:

Schoology

We heard your feedback about the PS Learning platform neither being very intuitive nor user-friendly. We are happy to announce that we will be switching to a new learning management system called Schoology. Here’s a link to a comprehensive parent guide for Schoology. We will be sending your parent access codes for your students at the beginning of the new school year.

Google Workspace Account for Families

Easy, transparent communication is a priority for us at BAIS. The school has decided that each family will receive a BAIS Google Workspace account and all email communication from BAIS staff would be only sent to your new family BAIS Google Workspace account. This will start at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. You will receive an email from Google Workspace Team when we create your family account. Each family will have just one account, so if both parents would like to have access to this Google Account on their mobile devices, then please add this account to both parents’ devices. Switching to Google Workspace Account for all families will enable seamless sharing of Google Drive resources along with Google Meet, Calendar, Chat and Gmail contact information of staff. For example, the Ramappa family would have a Google Workspace Account similar this: ramappa-2361@baisedu.family

Bring Your Own Headphone/Earphones for Students

Your child’s safety is important to us. In order to maintain a hygienic environment, where the students are not sharing headphones, we are requesting the students to bring their own headphones for the 2021-2022 school year. All students in grade PK3 through Grade 5 are required to have their own headphones (wired, non-bluetooth) for the next school year. For all other grade levels, teachers will communicate with parents directly if there is a requirement/need for headphones.

Elementary Awards

Dear Elementary Parents,

We are so very proud of our BAIS students and all of their accomplishments and growth this year! Thank you for all your hard work as parents in helping them achieve. Now, please enjoy the elementary awards video here. Elementary report cards and MAP testing data will be sent out via email to parents on Monday, June 14th. Elementary award certificates, if not already in your possession, will be available in the front office for pick up. After June 14th, physical copies of report cards and MAP scores will be available in the front office by request. Please email info@baisedu.org if you wish to request these.
